Clickers!

The official name is SMART Response Wireless Remotes, but we call them "clickers." Our class has been using clickers throughout the year for classroom discussions and assessments. The clickers look like a television remote, but have a readout screen. There are True and False buttons, letters for multiple choice, and numbers. Students can even enter text into the remote. Clickers are a great way to increase interest and are much more fun way to answer questions than pencils and paper!

Thank You for Friday!

Friday we not only got our MEAP reward, we also got our ABC (Awesome Behavior Choices) reward for September: the bounce house! Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. McLean for setting up the movie at the public library, and thank you to Mr. Drenth, Mr. Potter, and Ace Hardware for the bounce house!

Halloween Help (Please!)

Halloween is fast approaching. This week the class made symmetry pumpkins to decorate the classroom. We are now asking for parent volunteers to help with our party on Monday, October 31. After lunch that day students will change into costumes. At 1:00 there will be a parade downtown or around the school if the weather doesn't cooperate. After we will have our party. The class needs parent volunteers to set up and help with the activities. It would also be great if families could send in treats and beverages. Finally, Miss Frank is also looking for party activity ideas. Parents, please comment below or send a note to Miss Frank if you can help out or with any ideas you may have. Also, you can click here to sign up online. Thank you!

10/24 Update: We are all set for treats (thank you!), but need plates, cups (which I forgot to put on the note), napkins, and another beverage! We also need volunteers and ideas.

10/25 Update: Thank you everyone for stepping up! All we need now are napkins and another beverage. I also got an activity idea from a teacher from another school, so we are all set with ideas. We could still use parent volunteers to do it, though.

MEAP Celebration

Today was the last day of MEAP testing. To reward the students, the entire third and fourth grades will be having a celebration Friday afternoon. We will be walking down to the Charlevoix Public Library and watching a movie on the big screen! Congratulations to all of the students, and thank you for doing your best!

WikiCES

A wiki is a website that allows contribution and editing by its users. To learn about wiki's, our class is going to maintain and add to a webpage about our school: wikiCES. The wiki was started by last year's fourth grade students and will get better and better.

Grandparents, Friends, and a Parade!

We had a great day here in Miss Frank's class! It was "Grandfriend Day" and everyone had guests for lunch. Some students even got to show off their computer skills and fill in a favorites chart with their grandparent or friend. Thank you to everyone who came and made this a special day for all of the kids!

After lunch, the entire school went downtown for the Charlevoix High School Homecoming Parade. It was fun and we showed our Rayder pride by cheering for everything!

Book Orders!

Our first book order of the year is due tomorrow! The more we order, the more points we earn for free books to go in our class library. Please send in completed forms with cash or a check made out to Scholastic Book Clubs. If you would rather order online, you can go to http://clubs.scholastic.com/. Enter code JFC6L and our class will still earn points!

When I think back to when I was in fourth grade, I remember being very excited for book orders. I remember they used to have posters, and there was a great debate between the girls over the CHiPs poster: who was cuter, Ponch or John?

Thank You!

We would like to thank everyone who has donated to the classroom, especially the Mays family for the games and movies. We have had fun with them at indoor recess. Thanks again to the Russell family for the reading tub. Also, thanks to Caeden's grandfather for all the great puzzles! We have finished one with 300 pieces and will soon be working our way up to the 550 puzzles. Thanks to the Gullings family and the PTO for all the great outside recess equipment! Of course thank you to all the families who sent in tissues, wipes, and baggies. Finally, thank you to everyone who has sent in graham crackers. They really help when someone forgets their snack! We are a lucky group to have so many great people.

BrainPop!

Each morning during snack the class watches a BrainPop video. The animated movies are "curriculum-based content that engages students, supports educators, and bolsters achievement." Topics cover all subjects and many current events. After each video the class works together to answer quiz questions. You can see the featured video of the day at the bottom of this blog.
