Game Day Friday

Our Awesome Behavior Choices reward for November is a game day Friday, December 2! We will take an hour that morning to play board games. Students will use the ones in our class, or they can bring favorite board games in from home. We will start at about 10:00. Parents are welcome to come help us learn the games and to play along, too!

Happy Thanksgiving Day!

Happy Thanksgiving Day to one and all! There will be no school Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week for the holiday. I am thankful for all of my wonderful students and their supporting parents! Enjoy some turkey, even though there is no turkey in this drawing from art class!

Food Drive!

The school food drive is going on, and thank you everyone who has brought in food! We have already had to empty our donation box! If you haven't had a chance to send anything in, the drive continues until Monday, November 21.

Earning Points

Our student desks are arranged into three tables. When a table works well or makes a smooth and quick transition between subjects it earns a point. If the whole class does a good job, we earn a class point. When a table earns 10 points, they get to choose something from the prize box! If the class earns 20 points, we take a Friday afternoon to watch a movie.

The Sun, the Earth, and the Moon

Earlier this week we went outside for science. Students worked in groups of three to replicate the movements of the moon and the earth. One student was the sun, another student orbited around the sun, and the third student orbited around the earth. We also created a scale model using a soccer ball as the sun and a popcorn kernel as the earth. We found that "space" is a good name, because there sure is a lot of it out there!

Around the World

After specials in the morning, we have math. If we finished up the planned lesson early, we practice basic facts by playing Around the World. Two students stand up and try to answer a flash card first. The winner moves onto the next student. If someone beats five fellow fourth graders in a row, they get to put their initials on the Around the World star! Competition is fierce, but (I am proud to report) everyone is a good sport.

Going to the Moon!

Next week we will be starting a science unit on the relationship between the sun, earth, and moon. If students see the moon during the next few weeks, please draw a picture of it or get a photo. Mark down the day and time and bring it in. You can email photos to Miss Frank. We are going to hang them together in the classroom for a kind of Moon Log to see how it changes. Here is a picture Miss Frank took Tuesday, November 1, at about 6 pm.
